I dug up some daffodils earlier to remake a flower bed. They had finished blooming but still had their green tops. They were matted together with some wonderful Tennessee clay dirt and centipede grass so I couldn't get them seperated and replanted the way I wanted to. I have a small 3x3 foot garden around the mail box. It is mostly comprised of bulbs, tulips, daffodils that bloom in the spring and saffron crocus that bloom in the fall. In between it grows some very happy weeds ( Read more... )

In addition to the snowdrops that have spouted I now how crocuses (croci?!), tulips & daffs.
So far only the snowdrops & crocuses have flowered.

We've had a couple of unseasonably warm days here in USDA zone 7A, and the daffodils think it is spring! April 30 is our average last frost date, which, now that I'm thinking about it, sounds rather late for the daffodils - my calendar says their last bloom began March 20, 2010. I am guilty of mindlessness in this matter, and if possible I'd like to remedy the situation.

I feel like I've been swimming in a mud puddle, but I've only been working in the garden for the last two hours. Fall clean up is mostly complete, including staking the prone aster (when I got it back to vertical it was taller than I am) and the monkshood.
